What is the Color of the Month of January? by Catherine Foster

January 12, 2010

As an artist, I love color. As an energy healer and expressive arts coach, I also love to use color in my artwork, in meditations and inner growth.

Each Month I am going to talk about color and how that months color can enhance your life.

Januarys color is White. White is the element of air.

White is the perfect color for it contains all the colors in the rainbow. It is in perfect balance and harmony .

White is the color of snow- clad mountains, the color of mothers milk, the color of a soft mist, and clouds. It was in the midst of the giant snow-clad mountains that our forefathers practiced meditation and found for us the great spiritual truths of life.

It is the color of Peace ,purity, innocence, truth, sincerity, protection, spirituality, humility, ritual, moon goddess, totality, and endless possiblities. A great way to start the new year right?

It is A color to remove prejudice and pre-concieved notions. A color to see the innocence in others,  a color to clear emotionalclutter and silence the inner critic.

The color white will help to see the true persona beneath the masks of humanity.

The color while stimulates all three types of color sensitive cone cells in  the human eye in nearly equal amounts and with a high brightness compared to the surroundings.

So…………how can we use the color white this month to bring us into a fresh new beginning with more purity, perfection, peace, innocence and awareness?  I am now going to give you my 7 suggestions for the use of the color white this month.

1. White light can be generated in many ways. One is through the sun. If you live in a region where there is less sunlight as we have here in the NW, use,   in your home and workplace, electric incandescence, fluorescent lamps and light-emitting diodes

Warning:  To the human eye, white is a brilliant color that can also cause headaches for some people. So be sure to balance the use of white light with the color black.

2. Use the color white in your living and work spaces. In Feng Shui  White  is the element of metal. Feng Shui energy is crisp, clear, clean and fresh.. An excellent use for white with  feng shui is in areas where Metal is the dominant element such as West and Norhtwest Ba-Gua areas. go to Amazon here for books on Feng Shui: http://astore.amazon.com/artandsourad-20

3. You can bring in the color white through meditation and imagination. As creative beings we all have the ability to image. If you do not see colors, pretend you do for it is the power of intent that will bring the color to you.

Coming soon I will have a meditation with the color white to help you deepen your understanding this color to enhance YOUR life.

4. Use white stones to carry with you, put under your pillow at night, or hold them in your hand during a meditation.

Some of the White stones are pearls, moonstone, opal, selenite, snow quartz, white beryl, white calcite, white danburite, and white topaz.  White stones are connected to sleep, insomnia, dreams, visions, and the Goddess. She rules the night and the dream world, fertility, pregnancy, lactation, and the menstral cycle.

5. Does the color white have a taste? Right now, Imagine the color white. Close your eyes and feel the color white coming from  deep within your core. If you could taste the color white what is the first impression you receive? Is it the taste of vanilla ice cream? Or of califlower?  Here is a site to go to to learn what white foods to eat and not to eat. http://www.mentator.com/food_whitefood.shtml

6. With your eyes closed , wonder with me: Does the color white have a sound? Is it the sound of silence and peace?

Maybe since it is a color that contains all colors, it has the sound of the musical scale?  On  my blog fosteringart.com  I have  uploaded the video of Do Rae Me that I really enjoy!  This month I encourage you to sing this song several times .. maybe 5- 7 in a row in the shower in the morning. You  might notice that each time you sing Do Rae Me you feel clearer and more full of light.

Lastly number 7. Does color have a movement that wants to be expressed through you? I love to sometimes stand in a room by myself or with others and go within to listen. Today, try being with yourself or others with the movement of the color white. Stand where you feel safe with a lot of room around yourself. Go within with your eyes closed and imagine the color white. Let your body tell you how it wants to express the color white. Are your movements slow, fluid, gentle or does white carry an energy of electricity? You decide for yourself .
